Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson is the daughter of British lawyers Jacqueline Luesby (born in Paris) as well as Chris Watson (born in Paris). As a young girl of just five, she moved to Oxfordshire and went to at the Dragon School. Emma was six years old at the time she decided to pursue a career as an actress. She trained for several years at Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a part time theatre school in Oxford where she studied acting and singing. As a ten year old Emma was a participant in numerous Stagecoach productions as well as school productions. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone is the film from 2001 adaption to J.K. Rowling's bestselling book was filmed in 1999. Casting agents found Emma from her Oxford theatre teacher. David Heyman, the producer of Harry Potter Harry Potter's Sorcerer's Stone, and Ron Weasley told Emma after seven auditions that she'd been selected for the roles. Emma was chosen to play alongside Daniel Radcliffe Rupert Grint and Rupert Grint. The debut of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's cinematic screen debut. The film set records for opening-day sales and opening-weekend takings and also was the highest-grossing production of the year 2001. The film was praised by reviewers, and so were the performance of three young actors. The widely distributed British paper The Daily Telegraph called her performances admirable. Emma took home the Young Artist Award as the leading young actress in the Feature Film. Later, she was nominated five times for her role in the movie.
